The tube and its cap, one project

Cosmetic tube and tube cap mould manufacturer

A tube and its cap are one job in two tools. How far the cap turns before it is tight, and whether it slips when it is tight, is decided on both drawings at once. That is hard to do across two suppliers.

About this tooling

Cosmetic tube mould & tube cap mould, cut as a pair

The programme drawn on this page is a soft cosmetic tube with its screw cap. They are two moulds, and they were drawn in one project, so the shoulder of the tube and the inside of the cap are dimensioned against each other instead of being reconciled after the first samples.

The hardest thing on the cap is the thread: Ø21.8 mm, triple start, pitch 4, lead 12. In plain terms, three separate thread starts mean the cap is tight after about a third of a turn, which is what a consumer expects from a cosmetic tube, and it is far less forgiving to cut than a single start thread.

Tell us the tube diameter, the length and the cap you want and both tools are quoted together. North American buyers write cosmetic tube mold and soft tube mold; this is the same tooling.

Before you order

Seven questions about the tool itself

The seven that decide whether you order, answered for this tooling. Where a figure is on the drawing we print it; where it depends on your part we say which numbers we will ask you for.

1

Hot runner or cold runner?

Decided on each of the two tools by part weight and cavity count. A tube cap at higher cavitation normally takes a hot runner; a lower cavity tool is usually cold. The quotation names what each of the two uses.

2

Cycle time and output

The tube and the cap have to reach the filling line together, so the two cavity counts are balanced against each other. Tell us the tubes per hour and both are worked back from that.

3

How the part is ejected

A triple start thread cannot simply be pulled off, so the cap is unscrewed or stripped depending on the thread depth and the material. Which one your cap needs is answered before quoting and the layout is approved with the drawing.

4

Tryout report and acceptance

Both tools are run here and the moulded tubes and caps ship with them. The acceptance point on this pair is the assembled tube: how far the cap turns to seat, and whether it holds.

5

Spare parts

Cavities, cores and the thread inserts are cut from the same drawings. The thread insert is the wear part on a cap tool; say how many sets to pack.

6

Warranty

Warranty terms are written into the quotation for the pair of tools.

7

Will it fit your machine?

Tell us the make, model and tonnage of the machines. Say whether the tube and the cap run on the same machine, because that changes how the two tools are laid out.

What we will ask you for: the tube diameter and length, the wall, the material, the cap diameter and how many turns you want it to take, the tubes per hour, and your machines.

How many tubes an hour do you need?

The tube and the cap have to come off in matched quantities, so one output number sets both cavity counts. Tell us the figure you are planning around.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, and in one project. The tube body and the screw cap on this page were drawn against each other, so the shoulder and the cap are dimensioned as a pair rather than matched up afterwards.
Yes. The cap drawn here is Ø21.8 mm with a triple start thread, pitch 4, lead 12, so it seats in about a third of a turn.
The tube mould on this page is for a 35.4 mm diameter tube. Send yours and we'll quote it to your diameter and length. Send the tube itself if you have one; a sample answers more questions than a drawing.
Yes. Both tools are run here before they are packed and the tubes and caps they produced travel in the crate with the tryout record.
Yes, and it is a common request. Send the tube and the cap is cut to the shoulder it has to seal on.
Injection moulds are delivered in 40–60 days from approved drawings. An exact date is confirmed in the quotation.
